Tarangire National Park

African Elephant Paradise

Tarangire National Park is one of Tanzania’s most beautiful and wildlife-rich safari destinations, located about 120 km southwest of Arusha. The park is famous for its large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and diverse wildlife, making it a perfect destination for an unforgettable safari experience.

Covering an area of approximately 2,850 square kilometers, Tarangire is named after the Tarangire River, which flows through the park and serves as the main water source for animals during the dry season. When other water sources dry up, thousands of animals gather along the river, creating incredible wildlife viewing opportunities.

Landscape and Scenery

One of the most striking features of Tarangire is its giant baobab trees, which can live for hundreds of years and create a unique African landscape. The park’s scenery includes open savannah, acacia woodlands, river valleys, and seasonal swamps that attract many animals.

During the dry season, Tarangire becomes one of the best places in Tanzania to see wildlife because animals migrate into the park searching for water.

Best Time to Visit Tarangire National Park

The best time to visit Tarangire National Park is during the dry season from June to October, when wildlife gathers around the Tarangire River and game viewing is excellent.

However, the green season from November to May is also beautiful, with lush landscapes, fewer tourists, and great birdwatching opportunities.
